Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed scholars, and honoured guests,

Aidan Murphy joins Gout-Gout in Record 200-Metre Run

Michael Gleeson: “A Sprinting Golden Age Arrives on Seismic Weekend for Australian Athletics”

The national championships were supposed to be a showdown; they turned into a showcase. Gout Gout and Lachie Kennedy were supposed to go head-to-head; instead they went stride for stride, record for record. This isn’t a rivalry, it’s an era.

Gout is now the greatest junior of all time. His 19.67 seconds run on Sunday, when he became the first Australian ever to break 20s, gave him the record for the fastest man under the age of 20 the world has ever seen over 200 metres.

Yes, it’s real: Gout Gout crosses the finish line.
Yes, it’s real: Gout Gout crosses the finish line.Sitthixay Ditthavong … [Note that Aidan Murphy who came second and also broke the 20.00 barrier was in lane one and is therefore not inthis photo]

Australia had never had one person break 20; suddenly there were two. Not only did Gout become the first Australian to break 20 seconds in the 200m final, Aidan Murphy become the second. In the same race, Murphy ran 19.88s. And so an extra rivalry, or more importantly, an extra leg of a sprint relay team, also emerges.

The Lull Before the Storm: Why the Islamabad Collapse Signals Global Catastrophe.

Desert Wanderer  … with  highlighting imposed by The  Editor, Thuppahi

SEE https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2026/04/08/ceasefire-deal-iran-us-israel-war-trump/

The negotiations in Islamabad have ended without an agreement. Rather than engaging in genuine diplomacy, the United States attempted to bully the Iranian negotiators into accepting their demands unconditionally or facing annihilation. JD Vance proved to be a big disappointment in this regard; the negotiations in Pakistan were a waste of time and space, as American intentions were rotten from the start.

The Best TEST Bowlers Over the Years: Statistical Wizardry

Anantha Narayanan, whose title runs thus: Murali, Hadlee, Warne, McGrath – who’s the best Test bowler of all time?” ***

Ranking the best Test bowlers of all time using a comprehensive set of parameters

This article, and the previous one, are, inarguably, the most important of my articles ever. In this article, I have done comprehensive analyses of all the measures involved in the complex area of Test bowling and derived a list of the best Test bowlers of all time. This is a really tough ask since what I do has to be fair across 150 years, around six generations, and constantly shifting paradigms of Test cricket. I have spent over six months working on this complex analyses and am quite confident that I have got it correct. Maybe not 100%, but upwards of 90-95%. The Top Test batters article, published last month, was in a similar vein.

Yemen’s Leverage in the Red Sea

Desert Wanderer

By threatening to block the Bab al-Mandab Strait, Yemeni forces have successfully pressured Gulf nations into staying out of the wider war against Iran. This tactical leverage likely explains why these nations did not respond militarily to recent Iranian attacks on U.S. regional bases. Sana’a has also offered a conditional truce to Saudi Arabia, promising not to target its ports if the Kingdom stays out of any U.S.-Israeli military alliance.

Huge Groundwater Source at Pitabeddara in Lanka Discovered

ITEM in THe ISLAND, March 2026, entitled  Lanka discovers largest groundwater source”

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) on Friday said the largest groundwater source discovered in Sri Lanka so far had been identified during tube-well drilling near the Pitabeddara Police Station.

Indrajith Gamage, geologist in charge of the Southern Province, said the source recorded a continuous flow of about 10,000 litres (10 cubic metres) per minute, marking the first instance in the country where a groundwater source of that magnitude had been found. He noted that the previous largest groundwater source was discovered in the Madhu area, which recorded a flow of about 7,000 litres per minute.

According to the NWSDB, the tube well was drilled following geological studies of rock layers and the identification of underground water through fractures in rock strata using specialised technical instruments.

The Board said steps would be taken to distribute water from the newly discovered source to residents facing shortages in Pitabeddara, Morawaka and surrounding areas.
