I never had the chance to meet Sir Christopher Ondaatje in person, but I had the privilege of corresponding with him for a while. We were introduced by his close friend and travel companion, the late Dr. Rajpal de Silva, who authored some of the most important books ever written on maps, prints, and newspaper engravings depicting Ceylon.
