Ven. Mapalagama Vipulasara Thera was born on March 03 , 1925, in a village named Mapalagama in the Galle District. He studied at Paranthaneyamgoda Govt. school. He was ordained on July 14, 1940 at Paramadhamma Chetiya Pirivena, Ratmalana and obtained his Higher Ordination on February 18, 1946.

Fresh from the University of Peradeniya, after a stint of teaching at St. Anthony’s College Kandy, I was selected as an Administrative Officer in the Department of Agriculture in November 1957 with 18 others in a new cadre of administrative officers established in the Department. This cadre was the brainchild of the then Minister of Agriculture Philip Gunawardhane and was operationalized by the then Deputy Director Administration Sam Silva, who Philip called a ‘” human dynamo”. (Sam was also the prime mover in the establishment of the CWE and the Petroleum Corporation).

Sri Lanka will play three Test matches in England next summer as part of the World Test Championship. This will be Sri Lanka’s first three match series in six years. England were the last team to engage in a three match series against Sri Lanka in 2018.
Sri Lanka’s Test cricketers will be quite pleased that they will play in the latter part of the summer. Late summer with the sun out, sub-continent players tend to do well with the pitches too helping batters and spinners unlike early summer when the ball seams around.
