When US President Donald Trump arrogantly suggested that the neighbouring Arab States should absorb the Gaza population as a solution to Israel’s decimation of Gaza, he announced what discerning persons the world over had already perceived – the earliest Zionist Israeli arrivals, courtesy Lord Balfour, had come to take it all.

Cold War Proxies in Conflict: Ceylon & Palestine

Darini Rajasingham Senanayake,** at IDN-InDepthNews,… 24 July 2025, …. being Part II of an extended article with this title “From Ceylon to Palestine: Ethnic Conflict and Its Role in Cold War Proxy Dynamics” …. This is the second of a two-part series. Click here to read part one  .. .. with highlighting imposed by The Editor, Thuppahi

There are remarkable patterns of history, organised violence, and disinformation between events leading to the pogrom and forced population displacements in Sri Lanka in 1983, and British occupied Palestine 35 years earlier as the Nakba unfolded amid Cold War escalating in Europe between the Allies and Soviet Union or Axis Powers.

Slaughter of Palestinians …. Again

A Sri Lankan American, in an Item entitled “Slaughter of Palestinians”

As the world wakes up to the harrowing images of children slain by Israeli bombs across the entire Gaza Strip AGAIN, we cannot bear witness to global leaders JUST… DOING…. NOTHING. This is an acceleration of the genocide that Israel is committing against the Palestinian people as a whole. We already failed to prevent it and our Governments have an even greater obligation to stop it now.

The Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Contradictory Readings & A Confusing Set of ‘Pictures

Michael Roberts, …. with highlighting being my imposition

I am no expert on this scenario, but our household receives  The Australian  newspaper and have therefore been subject to its pro-Western and anti-Russian leanings (besides its manifest support for Israel). Then, I came across a Viewpoint within Facebook presented under an Anglo-Saxon name that laid bare [or seemed to lay bare] the history of Eastern Europe and recent NATO machinations in revelatory fashion. Alas, I did not register the name of the author and the item disappeared [as FB items seem to do in my experience].

Thus, I sent this comment to several friends in Sri Lanka and the West whom I considered knowledgeable in this field. A few have responded. Their responses indicate that this ARENA is a complex and confusing field of issues…. several minefields of an overlapping nature to speak metaphorically. We must tread carefully.

USA’s Terrible Overreach in This Our World From Biden’s Time

Ameen Izzadeen, in The Daily Mirror in Sri Lanka, 22 November 2024 …… where the title reads Biden’s legacy: Gaza genocide and now possible nuclear war in Europe” **

US Alternate Ambassador Robert Wood raises his hand to veto a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, during a United Nations Security Council meeting on Wednesday. AFP

Never has the world been so precariously on pins and needles as it is now, with Europe exposed to the threat of nuclear war, the West Asian region facing genocide, and the rest of the world uncertain about what to expect from the leadership change in the United States—a nation teetering on the brink of moral bankruptcy.

Guta Goldstein’s Holocaust Songs: A Spirit Undying

Jane Albert, in The Australian, 8 November 2024 …. where the title runs thus: “The Song that kept Guta alive during the Holocaust ….,”

It is often said that music has the power to heal and nourish, but for Guta Goldstein there were times in her childhood when music and singing were her only nourishment.

The Epitome of “EVIL” … Today’s Soulmates with Hitler

Brian Victoria

In an increasingly secular world, calling someone or something “evil” will seem to many as an anachronistic label, conjuring up as it does a reddish figure featuring a fiendish face and horns, pitchfork in hand, with wings and a tail. A truly dreadful and fearsome sight indeed!

Christians have traditionally viewed evil as a rebellion against God, embodied in the figure of “Satan” (aka Devil). Satan was identified as the cause of all suffering in the world.  Further, it was Satan’s fall from Heaven that illustrated the cosmic battle between good (God) and evil (Satan). As such, Satan existed as a malevolent force outside of ourselves, constantly attempting to entice us to accede to his wicked ways.

By comparison, in contemporary thought, evil is examined through psychological, social, and cultural lenses. Thus, evil can arise from one’s own psychological disorders, group dynamics or the sociopolitical/socioeconomic systems under which we live. No longer is it seen as a metaphysical or malevolent moral force lying outside of ourselves.
