Propaganda Battles re Sri Lanka: Russia & The West

Fair Dinkum

As further evidence that the West are still pushing the China debt trap narrative and that it did not stop in 2017, but has continued with even greater vigour than before, and is not being pushed by a few interests, but is part of a major Western propaganda campaign that stretches across the globe, here is another great example.

The item is of particular interest because it shows how the US uses back channels, in this case a purported academic in India, to push the China debt narrative on Russian television. This item aired on RT on 30 May 2022, so it is very recent. [RT = Russian Television …. https://www.rt.com/] Here, RT brought in Suvrokamal Dutta (described by RT as a “Political and Foreign Policy Expert ” but who knows nothing about Sri Lanka) to talk about the causes of the crisis in Sri Lanka.

Western Deception re Sri Lanka: Many Agencies

Orcadian’s NOTES in response to Benjamin Norton’s Revelatory Essay on the Sources of Debt faced by Sri Lanka

A = NORTON’S article needs to be tattooed on the brains of every mindless Western  journalist, every Western academic, everyone at the BBC, over the brains of Mike Pompeo, over Abe’s tombstone, over Morrison and Turnbull’s brain and over the Sri Lankans who repeatedly lie or fail to acknowledge that the vast majority of debt Sri Lanka owes is to the West, not to China.  There was NEVER a China debt trap. That was a false narrative propagated by Western interests to disguise the true picture about the vast US and Western debt trap.”

Colossal Deception: Gross Lies about Sources of Sri Lanka’s Debt Burden foisted on the World by Western Agencies

Benjamin Norton, in Multipolarista, July 12 July 2022 where the title reads thusReal debt trap: Sri Lanka owes vast majority to West, not China” ... with highlighting emphasis in colours imposde by the Editor, Thuppahi

Sri Lanka owes 81% of its external debt to US and European financial institutions and Western allies Japan and India. China owns just 10%. But Washington blames imaginary “Chinese debt traps” for the nation’s crisis, as it considers a 17th IMF structural adjustment program.

Breaking News: Subterfuge via the Obituaries for the Dead

Thalif Deen in New York

When Daya Perera was our UN ambassador, I had a perennial battle of wits -– and, most of the time, he had the last word. He once dismissed news stories in the Lake House newspapers as largely “bogus”. Defending my old establishment, I told him that people in Sri Lanka read the Daily News, at least for its obituaries. And Daya shot back: “Even those obituaries are bogus!”.

Misreading the Tamil Tigers: An American Scholar in 2017

Paige Ziegler, in The Bridge, 13 April 2017, where the title is “Learning from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam” …. reproduced here in Thuppahi, a site which has presented umpteen articles on Eelam War IV, in order to indicate [see THUPPAHI EDITOR’s NOTE at the end] how young American scholars present essays without extensive research.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were a highly successful terrorist organization who were famous for successfully forming a fully functional military. Their fight for separation from the Sri Lankan government lasted a quarter century, and parallels can be drawn between the Sri Lankan conflict and the current situation in the Middle East (and elsewhere). With civilian casualties reaching staggering numbers and negotiations leading nowhere, Sri Lanka had elected a new government and, with it, a new approach. By leveraging popular support, utilizing external countries to manage the conflict, and employing strategic military measures, the new Sri Lankan government recovered its country. Duplicating similar political actions and military maneuvers as those that proved successful for the Sri Lankan government may usher in peace for the Middle East.

At Lords: Man of the Match to a Cricket Ball … Good Lord!@!@!

Errol Fernando

My Man of the Match over the years has often been a Man.  Sometimes a bowler, batsman or fielder.  Also perhaps an umpire or even a third umpire.  Possible even a selector, coach or psychologist.

This time,  after yesterday’s Lord’s Test match, my Man of the Match ….. aka MOM ….. was the ball. Short and sweet, clear and simple , it was the actual BALL !  You will remember that at the end over 55 Captain Kane and Southey showed umpire Rod Tucker the ball, claiming that it had gone out of shape. Sure enough it was stuck in the gauge and New Zealand were able to choose a replacement ball. They smiled happily but did not realise that it would be the BATSMEN who would soon be smiling. At this stage England needed 99 to win.

There is a replacement of civilization and the media is not even covering it. “By 2050, 50 percent of the French population will be mixed.” — Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Radio Classique, May 17, 2021.”The mayor of Grenoble adopts the arguments and rhetorical formulas of the Muslim Brotherhood: talking about freedom to impose sexism”. — Céline Pina, Le Figaro, May 4, 2022.

Finale: Eelam War IV …. Recalling the Final Stages

Meera Srinivasan, in The Hindu, 18 May 2022, where the title is “Sri Lanka’s War Aniversary: Tamil Victims remembered in Colombo”

Scores of people on Wednesday gathered in Mullivaikkal village, in Sri Lanka’s northern Mullaitivu district, to remember the tens of thousands of Tamil civilians who were brutally killed in the final stages of the civil war in May 2009, when the armed forces crushed the LTTE.

Full Frontal: Confronting Diaspora Tamil Canards in Canada

Campaign to repeal Tamil Genocide Education Week Act (TGEWA), for the sake of all Sri Lankans

Dear Friends,
The Ontario provincial government of Canada passed a law on May the 6th to educate all Ontarians on a Tamil Genocide in Sri Lanka. The bill 104 that was passed is titled Tamil Genocide Education Week Act (TGEWA). Now, the schools in Ontario have no choice but to teach Tamil Genocide in Sri Lanka as a curriculum element, especially during the week ending May the 18th, every year. This is a myth propagated by the Pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora, which despite not having a single shred of solid evidence keeps on repeating a lie, hoping that it would be established as fact.
