“Footprints in the Sands” – A Poetic Lament for Sri Lanka’s Politics

Revd Derrick Mendis, S.J.**

Politics in Lanka is a dirty game

Sans sense of honesty, honour or shame.

On election-campaigns that squander millions,

When in power, make illicit billions.

Rare CEYLONIANA in the Roberts Study: Issues for the Future

Hallo to Those Attached to “CEYLONIANA” and Valuable Lankan Artefacts & Books

…………… Way back I took steps to catalogue and transport my Oral History tapes and other valuable material to Sri Lanka with the assistance of Jitto Arulampalam in Melbourne, several Adelaidians and VERITE RESEARCH in Colombo (a prolonged and massive set of operations). That stock in now available to the public at the National Library Services Board in Torrington Avenue, Colombo.[1]

Now: as my wife and I age and enter the last phase of our lives, we face the issue of the stock in my study. This includes:

  1. many-many-many off-prints of articles on Sri Lanka and world politics;
  2. books under my name;
  3. books on Sri Lanka and/or world politics (including Marxist fare);
  4. Sessional Papers and Census publications from official stock in Sri Lanka …in largish foolscap size bound copies ….;

Notewothy Sri Lankans Past & Present: Those ‘HIT’ in TPS on 19 June 2024

Michael Roberts

The web site is mounted via a web-engine named WORD PRESS. As its editor, I am informed every day about the number of hits …. that is visitors …. the site receives and which items have hits: this many here and this few there. The attention of course is drawn to those receiving many visitors. BUT, today I happened to lookat the bottom rows and the items receiving just one hit or maybe two.

Quite a few in the STATS FOR 19 JUNE 2024 related to biographical work about or by INDIVIDUALS – Sri Lankan personnel for the most part whether resident abroad or in the island …. or deceased.

The photos show Prof  Neil Karunaratne, Dr Darrel Weinman, Dr GC Mendis & Dr Narendran Rajasingham

Reaching Out with Digital Education–Vanni Hope in Sri Lanka

Thuppahi has consitently supported the charitable outreach that has been pursued by Ranjan Sivagnanasundaram and his VANNI HOPE projects and has no hesitation in backing this line of charitable aid.

“Enhancing Access to Digital Education for Disadvantaged Students/Children in the Rural Area of Sri Lanka”

 Introduction: The role of technology in teaching and learning is rapidly becoming a crucial and widely discussed topic in the modern education system. Most education experts agree that, when used effectively, information and communication technology have the potential to enhance teaching and learning while shaping job opportunities. Computer illiteracy is now seen as a new form of illiteracy, sparking a strong desire to provide schools in remote villages with the necessary computer facilities and trained personnel to develop technologically skilled students. It is undeniable that computers can assist in the instructional process and support students’ learning.

Dr Siri Kannangara: A Life of Service in Australia

Michael Roberts

The volume of sighs and messages that erupted when news of Dr siri Kannangara’s demise reahced the air waves speaks volumes for the regard with which he was held. I haad occasion to interact with him way way back when writing about our Sri Lankan cricketers and  athletes. Alas, my memory has not retained the details. But there is plenty of meaningful detail in the items that are referred to below ….. and we can be certain that there will be a volume of Vales that tell the world about Siri’s outreach.
