Team Sri Lanka will take flight to Blighty on Saturday to play three T20s (starting on 15/9) and three ODIs (from 22/9) in what will be unfamiliar territory for two largely inexperienced – albeit strong – squads that could give the Brits a run for their money. Two stand-out selections for both formats come in the form of Charith Asalanka who travels as vice captain and the flamboyant Kamil Mishara,with many others picking themselves, so to speak.
ut as almost always, there’s at least one eye-opener and some omissions… Dasun Shanaka continues to ride on luck while the likes of Avishka Fernando, Milan Rathnayake, Angelo Mathews and perhaps even Sonal Dinusha (for the ODI series) and Chamindu Wickramasinghe (T20s) may count themselves unlucky not to make it.
But most of all, it is the playing XI that will make the difference – so let’s hope we don’t end up with X on the field like we have done for too long. All that said, it goes without saying that 22 million Sri Lankans will be flying the flag in two weeks time – and we hope that the lads will do the same
