I find Gunaratna an intellectual lightweight. Here are my thoughts to his claims…..
Rohan Gunaratna’s “two-week” victory claim is a dangerous fantasy, as unsubstantiated as the “feeling” Trump used to justify this invasion. His assessment that the U.S.-Israeli offensive will rapidly degrade the regime’s capacity is being dismantled in real-time by regional developments and internal U.S. intelligence.
Gunaratna’s analysis suffers from blatant Groupthink. He cites Steve Witkoff’s claim on Hannity that Iranian negotiators “proudly” admitted to possessing 11 nuclear bombs—a documented fabrication. Witkoff didn’t find a threat; he invented one to sabotage the Omani-led peace breakthrough. On 9 March, IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi confirmed there is zero evidence of a structured Iranian weapons program.
Witkoff is an entrepreneur, not a diplomat. He doesn’t understand statecraft, yet Rohan is simply echoing his lies. There is no evidence of a functional bomb—a fact confirmed by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, whose expert reports were dismissed by Trump with a simple, “She’s wrong,” as he opted to launch a war based on a vague “hunch.”
The timeline exposes the betrayal: President Trump publicly stated negotiations were making “good progress,” and Secretary Rubio was scheduled for further high-level talks. Yet, in the middle of this diplomacy, the U.S. and Israel launched an illegal war and assassinated Khamenei.
GUNARATNA Gunaratna’s analysis is deeply flawed; he is merely repeating U.S.-Israeli tropes used to justify an invasion without any grasp of the actual geopolitical causes. It is absurd to launch a war based on a “feeling” while actively sabotaging a diplomatic exit. In celebration of this irrationality, please watch this tribute so we can all “feel” the absurdity together. If Gunaratne was such an intelligent academic, why does he ignore the experts in favour of the spin doctors? His attempts to frame the war—not as a failure of diplomacy, but as its goal—are, in fact, a deliberate murder of diplomacy.
SPOT ON …. Thanks
