……  Jumping ahead to tomorrow I would love to know what we Greasy Polers predict.  Some possibilities are  Australia  325 for 4 with Konstas  150 not out.  Another possibility is   Australia 275 for 8 with Konstas  out for 80.  Let me go with that one although I can’t see Australia losing as many as 8 wickets when India has only ONE really threatening bowler. The Aussies have Boland, Cummins  and Starc  as well as Lyon.  All eyes, of course, will be on Konstas, the epitome of Test cricket 2025. He will empty the bars following players such as Sobers, Viv Richards and Lara. I do not include Tendulkar in that list. He did not empty bars. He just made lots and lots of runs!

India’s miserable 185 was indeed a match-losing total. The Aussies will surely have a healthy lead. The main thing is to leave the bar and keep your eyes on Konstas!

Sri Lankans Down Kiwis in High-Scoring T20 Match

New Zealand came close in the 219-run chase, but Sri Lanka did enough to get a consolation win

Sri Lanka 218 for 5 (Perera 101, Asalanka 46) beat New Zealand 211 for 7 (Ravindra 69, Asalanka 3-50, Hasaranga 2-38) by 7 runs

In the end, Sri Lanka did enough. That’s not something you’d expect to say about a team that had racked up 218 runs in their first innings, but it speaks towards just how well New Zealand had set about their chase for most of the innings. It was a victory set up largely by Kusal Perera‘s maiden T20I ton, the fastest ever by a Sri Lankan, coming off just 44 deliveries.

Remarkable Final Ball Win in a Sheffield Shield Cricket Match

Michael Roberts … in an oldish item left dormant last year ….

For a side to face a target of 427 runs in the fourth innings ofa cricket match and to reach such a total is rare in the history of cricket. Tasmania nearly achieved this difficult task on their home grounds in the match against South Australia. They fell two runs short …. as a flurry of wickets at the end, no doubt encouraged by time running out, dashed their remarkable fourth innings chase.

“I tend to agree with statements made by Frank Worrell and Gary Sobers. In their assessment Mahadevan Sathasivam was the best batsman that they had ever seen. Particularly in the case of Worrell, he played against Sathasivam when he scored 96 on a very bad wicket against top bowlers, who did extremely well on poor conditions.

Three Promising Young Tamils in Present Sri Lankan U19 Squad

Sharujan Shanmuganathan, born on April 25, 2006, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is a promising left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman representing the Sri Lanka Under-19 cricket team. He gained early recognition for his elegant stroke play, drawing comparisons to former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara. At just five years old, during a 2011 Test match between Sri Lanka and Australia, Shanmuganathan was spotted playing a graceful cover drive, earning him the nickname “Little Sanga” from commentator Tony Greig.

Shanmuganathan honed his cricket skills at St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena, and further developed his talent under the guidance of coach Nelson Mendis at the CCC School of Cricket. He showcased his potential by scoring 1,000 runs in the U19 Division One Interschools Two-Day Cricket Tournament for the 2022/23 season.
