David is a creature of his class and environment. His views seldom fall outside the circumscribed boundaries of his station.

He deemed overpopulation to be the greatest risk to our planet. A plague, he called it. A third World catastrophe is implied.
He could not for a second comprehend that a far greater risk to life was the voracious Capitalist bubble he lives and thrives in..
Plundering the Earth’s resources for profit knows no bounds. The Third World has to bear the cost and scars of unfettered pillaging and environmental degradation.

He smuggled a 20 million year old Megalodon tooth out of Malta.
A few decades later he gifted the priceless cultural artefact to little Prince George. Malta could not be trusted to care for their cultural treasures in the way that He and little George could. The Colonial mentality that keeps the Elgin marbles and millions of other plundered treasures in the British museum. The Greeks have been seeking a return for decades, just like the Maltese Cultural minister. Malta did give up. David never gives up on the Royals. The overwhelming symbol of the British class system. He argued strenuously against airing a documentary showing the inner routines of Royal life – a family barbecue. Too much like ordinary people he stressed. Would destroy the Royal mystique. And by extension- privileges that attach to class.

In the 70’s, mountain gorillas were critically endangered. However, an impoverished Rwandan government was raising park revenues by allowing expensive human romps among the apes. In his eagerness to build his intrepid brand, David was one of the rompers. A filmed sequence that was used by the BBC to boost the popularity (and revenues) of the documentary series. Gorillas share almost all our DNA and are acutely susceptible to human illness transmissions against which they have no immunity. Attenborough and the BBC should have known better. Not only was there close proximity but David encouraged contact – an absolute taboo.

We live in a highly propagandized World.
But at a moment in history when we see it being distorted real time, before our very eyes – a distortion over a 100 years is forgivable.
