Intellect occupies many lanes. The one the Israelis excel in is lawlessness and treachery. The Iranians let their guard down because they were assured by the US — an Israeli satrapy — that hostilities were on hold during the negotiations being held.
The Iranian failure was not knowing the enemy. They did not comprehend that the US was less than a vassal state.
