The former Trinitian has promoted Sri Lanka as a tourist destination at many an international travel forum and run campaigns on behalf of Sri Lanka spending his own funds. A spokesman for the OBU of Trinity College said it was a magnanimous gesture on the part of Mahir Didi to assist his Alma mater in a big way. He said that with age, the prevalent humidity and dampness in the region has caused structural deterioration of the edifice and its murals and the Chapel is critically in need of comprehensive restoration and conservation.
