A Matador in Repentence …. & A Forgiving

Michael Roberts

The Bullfights staged in custom-built arenas in Spain and Latin America are spectacular  pageants that are said to have held watchers spellbound (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullfighting). Presumably they still do. But someone sent me a striking still-shot that immediately held me spellbound.

This picture reveals an experienced matador in wailing repentence …. with a forgiving bull facing him calmly in stoic sadness.

…. and in his subsequent clarification the matador indicated that the bull’s eyes conveyed sadness and the enquiry “why are you pursuing such a task?”

WHAT a marvellous MOMENT! What a transformation effected!. This famous matador gave up his trade thereafter …. or so I like to believe.

To me this remains an abhorrent sport initiated in medieval times by the uneducated. To my mind, it is cruel to the combatants and could only create thoughts of violence amongst the spectators/audience which in turn remains the very antithesis of peace ! Simply my thoughts
