SENT to me Thuppahi Editor by Ajit Rodrigo-Candappa, a Sri Lankan citizen of the world somewhere in this world, with the following set of SERIAL COMMENTS:

Of cascading effects –

that sink-hole of recession the EU has knowingly embraced

* Of a Public in the West now in Ukraine-fatigue
* Of a Ukraine ‘hoisted by its own petard’ –
* of the original ill-will of its disingenuous globalised wave after wave of disinformation (of the mouse that roared) – which has it deadeningly hemmed-in now – from any hope of suing for peace with Russia.
* Of that ‘Zelenskyite hubris’ which has him heading for assassination by a Ukrainian far right, should he indeed sue for peace with Putin
* A story and a map – of a ‘Vale of tears’ – of a collective madness!
* Of how ‘all our xmases’ end this year!
All I can say in resposne to ajit is: “Wow, man! What insightful thoughts!”
READINGS from “Fair Dinkum” in Australia 1 December 2022 … with highlighting imposed by The Editor, Thuppahi
Interesting to read these comments, and to see the video. I’ve never been more sure that the West, i.e.  EU countries, UK and US are going down the wrong track completely.  The EU have allowed themselves to be gutted by the US who have succeeded in spliting Europe from Russia, and are forcing Europeans to buy gas and oil at 4 times the price from the US and they are making huge profits out of this.
Europe will be forced to divorce itself entirely from the US at some point, if Europe is to survive at all. Europe’s relationship with Russia is destroyed, probably forever, which is a very bad thing for Europe and a stupid thing as well. The West mistakenly believe that getting rid of Putin is the answer which shows how out of touch with reality the West is these days.
The West have deliberately ignored the true causes of the war in Ukraine, the historical background going back to 2014, and earlier to 2009. In this particular case, Russia is right in defending the interests of the “Russian nation”, as Ukraine turned on Russians who had once been part of Ukraine.
Russia will eventually win this war, but it has now reached a point where that can only be achieved by the total destruction of the Ukrainian military and the government of Ukraine, which is perhaps why Putin recently suggested this war will go on for years.  I am not so sure that is true, but it will go on into 2023, and the consequences of it, and the reckless decisions of EU leaders will last for decades.   The West think they can weaken Russia through this war, but we can see it is the West that is being weakened,  depleting its weapon stocks, etc., while Russia is getting stronger.
What happened to those American retired Generals who told us a few months ago that Ukraine would be in Crimea by now and the war over… the war marches on to Kyiv, not Crimea.”

Did Sunak on behalf of Britain get his foot in his mouth by visiting Zelensky & offering military assistance at a time British are under going hardships? Whats the plan? resort to quantitative easing again?
Birds of a feather flock together. The Five Eyes, Europe, Oz/NZ with
    Japan & Korea
On the other hand, its hard to believe this opinion and that of Americans. They say things with their tongues in their cheek.

Ukrainian war and what should be our attitude?
Here we may invoke an old Buddhist parable which goes as follows:
If you see a person bleeding badly with an arrow through him, do we spend out time debating who is guilty of sending this arrow, who drew the weapons first, from which direction did the arrow come, of what wood is the arrow and what clues does it give of the origins of the matter, etc., etc..
The Buddha says, “no, monks, the urgent priority is to save the man and attend to the man’s suffering.”
[Of course, here the Buddha was discussing the disputations about whether there is a creator of the world or not. But it applies equally well to any complex question where there is no way of establishing cause-effect relations except in a very naive sense. If you google “Unanswered questions in Buddhism”, or “the Buddhist parable of the arrow,” you will find links to the original discourses].
So, in the same sense, I think what is needed is to save the Ukrainians. The Russians had invited Pink Floyd musician to sing of peace at the UN and now seem to be interested in negotiations.

[Instead of looking for peace, especially in Sri Lankan narratives, I see people trying to find who is guilty, and accusing the US if they are Left leaning, and accusing the Russians if they are Right leaning. One witnesses mostly partisan discussions of a topic for which one can always find “experts” from either side, with their U-Tube emissions. In reality, if you look for causes and who did what, you have to trace it all the way to the big bang, or to the fall of man when he ate the forbidden fruit in the garden of Eden!

Continuing the war will destroy Ukraine and destabilize the whole world already facing a climate catastrophe.
Already, over 8 million refugees have left the country often with nothing in their hands, with many family members dead, and houses, cities, churches etc., destroyed..
Marshal plans may rebuild, but at what huge emissions of Green House Gases etc.?
Why is there no discussion of the impact of the war on the impending climate catastrophe and on poor countries?
Ordinary Russians, Ukrainians, all citizens of the world are affected, even though they have no say in the war.
The best solution in my opinion is to stop the war as soon as possible by negotiations, with some give and take, to avoid further killing, maiming and expulsion of people as destitute refugees.
If force has to be applied, it should be only proportionate. But instead of force, why does no one want to try the methods of, say, Gandhi where a population offers complete passive resistance, coupled with international sanctions against the aggressor?
The answer to the last question lies in the nature of domestic US and Russian politics.
The accepted tradition in US politics is to assume as hawkish a position as possible and to beat one’s breast with assumed moral fervor against the aggressor. In Russia too, the valour of the Red Army is beyond question.
If Biden doesn’t sound hawkish, his opponents in the GOP will. When Obama didn’t sound hawkish, the Clintons did it for him.
Similarly, Canadian Deputy PM Chrstia Freeland went to Brookings Institute and made a very Hawkish speech, so that no one from Poillievre of the Canadian conservative party, to the Red Necks in Alberta can outdo her.
In addition to all this, BOTH Russia and the West, and also the Chinese, Japanese, South Koreans, even the Iranians, Turks and Israelis make money by selling arms to both sides! The arms merchants are Oligarchs, some are Russians, some are from India, some are of course US, UK and EU Israeli oligarchs.
War is a profitable racket where the rich collect profits, while the poor public pay the cost of the war (i.e., cost of armaments, cement, semiconductors, fuel, rockets etc.).
In this war American oilmen sell oil to Europe at 4 times the price. The Indian steel makers and cement manufacturers are selling the stuff at twice the normal price, the South Koreans, Taiwanese and Samsung are selling semiconductor components at three to four times the usual price. It is excellent business. Sri Lanka could sell graphite, titanium etc., but it is so ill-organized that even if someone were to come and steal it from them with a few bucks in bribes, the public will not know what happened.
That is why there is ALWAYS a war somewhere. See:

Most Europeans appear surprised when Modi doesn’t follow orders. The reason is that he does, but he follows the orders of the INDIAN oligarchy, not the US one. The EU and UK (and Australia) have been so used to doing the bidding of the US oligarchy at the expense of the interests of their own oligarchs, that it has become second nature to them.
