Grotesque Cricket Events at Afghanistan-Sri Lanka U19 Encounter at Antigua

Michael Roberts

If the famous West Indian lyricist and calypso-king Lord Superior was still alive and watching the Under 19 World ODI Cup being contested in his home territories in the Caribbean, he would surely have honed-in on one of the craziest matches in world history – one underlining the ridiculous mistakes from both sides participating.

This match took place at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua and Barbuda on the 27th January 2022. The two sides were Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. They had done well to reach the semi-final stage of the competition. Asked to bat first, Afghanistan struggled and reached a total of 134 runs.

And THEN ……

  • Proceeded to donate 32 wides to the Sri Lankan team …. Repeat 32 Wides!@#!! …. …………… the second highest score in the Lankan card.
  • But yet won the match because the Sri Lankans ‘donated’ four run-outs!.…. And could only total 130 runs in the face of Afghanistan’s 134.
