Mirigama-Kurunegala Highway now Operational

Mirigama to Kurunegalle 40k Highway opened to public 15/1/22T

The highway goes through the  central lowlands of Sri Lanka. This 40.91 km sector from Mirigama to Kurunegala of the Central Highway has cost Rs.149 Billion.

 

The second phase of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala (Ethugalpura Gateway) will be opened to the public today under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. The distance of the second phase of the Central Expressway from Mirigama to Kurunegala is 40.91 km. Built to minimize environmental and social impacts, the expressway will bypass urban areas and pass through mainly vacant lands. This section of road was constructed by local contractors using local funds. Five Exchange Centres with toll counters have been set up at Mirigama, Nakalagamuwa, Dambokka, Kurunegala and Yaggapitiya. Rs.149 billion has been spent for this.

    When people find hard to get a crumb of bread regime offers cake. Who will bear the economic, financial, environmental cost? We are mortgaging many future generations.
