Lankans in Adelaide in Support of Island’s Covid Battle

A Note from Dr Charitha Perera

Dear Friends,  On behalf of the Adelaide Covid 19 fundraising committee, I wish to inform you that the Sri Lankan Food Fair held on Monday 14th June raised a sum of $33,032.
We thank the 16 Sri Lankan community organisations and many volunteers who worked tirelessly together for a common cause to raise these funds.
Some of the Chefs and Workers posing for all their worth!

We also thank the large number people who visited and supported the food fair, the sponsors for their financial assistance, and the Hectorville Cricket Club for providing the grounds and their brand-new club house facilities for free.
With the addition of donations collected through the Adelaide Sri Lanka Buddhist Vihara joint appeal, the total Covid 19 fund now stands at over $45,000 and we are in the process of organising the donation of essential medical equipment to the hospitals in Sri Lanka through the Ceylon College of Physicians.
Best wishes,
Charitha Perera, Honorary Consul for Sri Lanka, Adelaide

I would be taking immense care to ensure that the incredible amount of money raised.. particularly when converted into SLR… is given to genuine sources, rather than lining the pockets of corrupt, greedy individuals., as very often happens.
There must be detailed feedback, providing those generous Australians who have contributed, to understand that the funds are distributed to reach those who are in genuine need.

  2. For your information. We have a similar fund raiser in Canberra in support of the Islands Covid Battle.
