Bullshit Artists in Agricultural Science: A Raging Sri Lankan Email Debating Circuit

Chandre Dharmawardana

[Several personnel in this vibrant Sri Lankan EMAIL DISCUSSION CHAIN] have presented a conspiracy claim (that companies like Monsanto practically buys scientists by providing them scholarships and research grants). [This type of assertion] is easy to make, and was started in the mid 1990s when whole-foods supermarket chains began to clamour for a larger share of the market, and a well calculated disinformation campaign was launched.
Can we say that all the Nobel Laureates who believe that glyphosate is a very safe herbicide are all paid agents of Monsanto?
[alleged] Glyphosate injury on raspberries. Photo credit: OMAFRA.

On 31st July 2016 100 Nobel Laureates made a press release in Washington Post, condemning these attacks, and asking “environmental” organizations  like Green Peace to desist from funding bogus research designed to prove that glyphosate is dangerous. Example, giving glyphosate to species of rabbits that are known to easily get cancer, and then claiming that such research proves that glyphosate causes cancer.

Glyphosate was banned claiming that it caused kidney disease in the Rajarata. But there is ot even a single piece of clinical or experimental evidence to support it, so people like Dilrook Kannagngara are forced to talk of aphids dying of glyphosate – a good thing for farmers who want to get rid of aphids.

Can we say that anyone who gets a Shell scholarship is going to support fossil fuel? Can we say that someone who gets his/her medical degree in Public Health from Bristol University will become a spokesman for cigarettes because Bristol U was (and still is) funded by a multinational cigarette company? Even nin Sri Lanka, Ceylon Tobacco (which should be made to close its tobacco plantations) gives scholarships and funds charities etc., and so are all those scholars supporters of Tobacco?
The dis-infromation campaign of the whole foods supermarket chains is more successful because it is based on frightening the consumer.

But it cannot ultimately succeed because organic food is 4-5 times as expensive as conventional supermarket food, and it is also environmentally more damaging..

Killing two birds with one stone! No wonder it is the worlds most popular herbicide, sold in 190 countries, with China today its largest producer. US Agriculture has not banned it and its periodic review has approved for another 5 years. UK does a period review every 10 years. EU in two years. It is certain to approve it for another 5 years.

Dilrook Kannangara (DK) pulls out of the internet. Of course the paper must may be very respectable. But it is what you do with its contents that matters. Let us take one of his papers, e.g.,

he refers to a paper saying glyphosate kills aphids (while also killing weeds). So, farmers should be very happy, because they WANT TO eliminate aphids which suck dry young rice garins and young buds of  many leaves.

But DK is complaining, as if it is not a good thing if it were only true!

If DK had looked at the amounts of glyphosate involved, he will also see that farmers don’t use such amounts of glyphosate, but only a tiny minuscule of it. So, unfortunately, the farmers have to use some other approach to get rid of aphids.

That aphids die at “sublethal doses of glyphosate” is of little use to anybody except for those who want so say “See, glyphosate kills”. But, Diesel exhaust kills insects (and people) even more efficiently, and at much lower doses, and no one is trying to take the belching trucks and buses of the roads before they take glyphosate off the market.

These studies talk of “sublethal” doses, and NOT doses at the level used by farmers.
These are orders of magnitude higher than what is used in the field by farmers, or
left on crops after application.
In fact, these experiments don’t even establish that, e.g., the aphids died due to the
glyphosate, or due to the adjuvant ( a soapy material), or due to some other effect.
A press release by 100 Nobel laureates commented on the anti-GMO lobby who
claim that this type of results have relevance to actual agricultural practice. They
have no relevance.
A 23 year long study on some 90,000 people in farmer families was carried out
under normal usage conditions, with normal glyphosate with adjuvants as used by
farmers, and the results were released in November 2018, by the US Department of
Public health which funded the study that cost billions (it had NO industry funding and
NO industry scientists).
G. Andreotti et al., JNCI: Journal of the National Cancer Institute,
     Volume 110, Issue 5, 1  2018, Pages 509-516
Prof. Spiegelhalter, University of Cambridge, who was not part of the study stated that this:
“large and careful study”  showed “no significant relationship between glyphosate use and
any cancer.”
Now, NO ONE, not even Dr. Dilrook kannangara, has given us ANY publication showing an experimental link between glyphosate and kidney disease!

WE CHALLENGE YOU TO GIVE US even ONE REFERENCE to  experimental/clinical evidence.

And yet, the government banned glyphosate saying it caused CKDu in the Rajarata in Sri Lanka.

Also, are we talking of acute toxicity, chronic toxicity, absorption by the  gut, through airborne delivery, or from the skin? All these are different and work at different dosages.

So, that glyphosate becomes toxic at some appropriate high dose, to some insects or animals, is not surprising and even in early manuals on its usage this was discussed. The court cases succeeded because those manuals had failed to explicitly say that it will also be toxic to humans (at least in sufficiently large doses. See WHO/FAO press release, Geneva 16 May 2016).
The US juries and even judges are not able to figure all this out when faced with clever lawyers confusing the issue.

Don’t forget that since the 1925 Scoops trial, many teachers and professors have been jailed in the US for teaching the theory of Evolution, deemed a blasphemous lie by US courts.

So, court judgments are irrelevant to what is true or not.

There is NOT ONE proven case of Kidney disease caused by

glyphosate in the Rajarata, or it affecting the livestock and household pets that drink this water claimed to be “poisoned” by glyphosate and other agrochemicals.

Every one who has got the kidney disease are people who drank from their own wells in high ground where there is NO agrochemical contamination.

The wells are found to have fluoride and magnesium from geological sources. Such water, when fed to laboratory rats, get kidney dsiease. But laboratory vrats fed water with glyphosate do not get kidney disease.

98% of the patients who have died of kidney did not show any glyphosate under autopsy. The 2% who showed some signs of glyphosate were at such low levels that they were well within the uncertainty of the tests.

So, what do you do? Remove the wet mask and wear a fresh mask.
When people are told to wear a face mask, no one demanded that the SAME mask must be worn for ever, weather wet or not.
The mahadaenamuttas are unable to do use common sense.
Masks have been used for decades in clean rooms of semi-conductor/transistor
fabrication rooms, and in medical operating rooms.
People know how to use them. But it seems to be news to some
individuals who do not even believe in viruses or in the Covid pandemic.
These same people wanted to ban glyphosate even if not found in the

These same people are ready to believe that using cell-phones

will give them brain cancer.
But it shouldn’t matter if they don’t have brains in the first place.

Farce mask: it’s safe for only 20 minutes

Excerpts seen in most recent analysis[March 10, 2021] on mask deployment, associated with numerous citations:[a]

Masking Children: Tragic, Unscientific, and Damaging
Paul E. Alexander McMaster University

Summary: Children do not readily acquire SARS-CoV-2 (very low risk), spread it to other children or teachers, or endanger parents or others at home. This is the settled science. Masking can do positive harm to children – as it can to some adults. But the cost benefit analysis is entirely different for adults and children – particularly younger children. Whatever arguments there may be for consenting adults – children should not be required to wear masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19…

..Additionally, data now suggests (even though still nascent) that children not only have extremely low risk as mentioned above but also that they naturally have the capability of evading the SARS-CoV-2 virus due to the lack of the ACE-2 receptors in their nostrils. It escapes us as to why this deceit continues to be served to the public and has not been stopped forthwith… “

..But how dangerous is this virus? Based on studies done by Professor John PA Ioannidis of Stanford University, we know that we are dealing with a virus that has an infection fatality rate (IFR) of 0.05 in persons 70 years old and under (range: 0.00% to 0.57% with a median of 0.05% across the different global locations; with a corrected median of 0.04%). This compares quite well to the IFR of most influenza viruses (and even lower), and yet the draconian and massive reactions to SARS- CoV-2 have never been employed during influenza season…

“..Given this knowledge it is more than perplexing as to why our governments, at the behest of their public health advisors, have been accepted as a fait accompli what we refer to as a ‘great deception’ or lie, convincing us of inevitable and severe consequences if anyone is infected with SARS-CoV-2. ..

... If you wouldn’t put a child in the front seat of your Prius without disabling the airbag – think twice before requiring an otherwise healthy child to wear a mask – or even forcing them to social distance in school..

Even though good professor entrusted with educational matters for our children appear to have become somewhat stooped due to advanced age, one hopes that ‘backbone’ demonstrated among other matters, to kick Prof Nalin de Silva out of his job continues to function. And that, he would have courage, foresight & the conviction to stand firm against treacherous destruction caused by masking our school children. Their development irrevocably destroyed for more than an year thus far. Such a monumental disaster for our children never was allowed to occur even during a murderous terrorist infection spanning close to three decades.

We may have opted to act in compliance with sheep maneuver for certain reasons for the time being. Which began with a mask mandate, shut down for ‘few weeks to flatten the curve’, then off/on extensions for months until the arrival of Godot(mRNA serum aka vaccine!) & now, following vaccine deployment, there is no guarantee of re-infection, mutations of virus arriving at n’th degree, more successive booster shots needed, continue with mask mandates, social distancing, lock-downs etc.? Grand deception on humanity appear to have gone full circle inculcating assumption that the idea known as innate immunity within ourselves serving humanity for over unknown millennia had ceased to exist!

That said, first salvo appear to have been fired in the glare of public eye during WWII Victory Day event presumably among other things, to opt out fm on going grand deception[b]
