Upmarket Bungalows as Tourist Lodges

An Item in MENAFN – Colombo Gazette

Wilde and Co. has expanded its boutique hotel collection with the addition of The Planters House; a colonial estate ‘bungalow’, which enjoys a secluded position on the original Lipton Estate, just below the famous Lipton’s Seat. The company operates with owners to develop, manage and promote a handful of beautiful hotels and lodges across Sri Lanka.  Founders Tim Edwards and Max Duddy share a twin passion for heritage and conservation and those themes inform the makeup of their portfolio.

The Planters House: A colonial estate bungalow

The Planters House fits the heritage bill perfectly. It is located in a secluded position at Lipton’s Seat, and the large main house has been exceptionally well maintained and offers five bedrooms, plus multiple sitting rooms and extensive gardens. A further two private cottages sit on its grounds, along with an infinity pool offering incredible views of the mountains and valley below.

Max Duddy, Director at Wilde and Co., says; The Planters House sits at 1200m, so it’s a 45-minute drive up in a 4×4, alternatively we can arrange a helicopter, but once up there you’ll enjoy some of the best views in Sri Lanka. Add to this its stunning interiors, and a host of activities; from afternoon tea on the mountain, to hikes up to Lipton’s Seat, and you have a wonderfully unique stay. ‘We always look to preserve for our visitors the very best of what Sri Lanka can offer via our properties, and The Planters House is a one-of-a-kind stay.

Wilde and Co. are also overseeing the launch of a new heritage property turned boutique hotel, Viceroy House , which will open in December. Currently being renovated, the house has a storied past – it was once the home of Sri Lanka’s most famous artist, and has been owned by a Hollywood actress. Offering the very best in luxury, but with the ‘house party’ feel that Wilde and Co. looks to create, rooms will start from $380, and suites $680.

The Wilde and Co. portfolio includes:

Gal Oya Lodge; a boutique lodge on the fringe of Sri Lanka’s forgotten National Park. Rukgala Retreat; a yoga escape on the shores of the Victoria Lake. Ashburnham Estate; a boutique tea estate guesthouse with views of the Knuckles Mountains and Bougainvillea Retreat; a converted family home – a peaceful haven less than an hour from Kandy
