REV. FR. VITO PERNIOLA, S.J., passed away at 08.30 am on 07th January (Thursday), 2016 in Negombo- Sri Lanka. The funeral mass was held at the chapel, “Sevsevana”, Jesuit Provincialate, Akkara Panaha, Negombo and burial took place in Fatima Retreat House, Lewella, Kandy- Sri Lanka.

I speak as one of his students in the HSC class at St. Aloysius College and as a researcher who has benefited from his historical researches, notably in The Catholic Church in Sri Lanka. The Dutch Period, Volume I. 1658-1711 Colombo, Tisara Press, 1983 and then Volume II. 1712-1746 and Volume III. 1747-1795.
Truly a long and fruitful life …. but I cried today … and tears flow yet as I type.
