Comment: While the fans were full of FERVOUR and at times quite frenetic, and the cheering vociferous, the atmosphere was one of cheerful rivalry and the jeering laced with a sense of fun. Indeed, the common threads in style, the mix of English and Hindi, or Urdu and English and the syncretism of dress and expression presented by the Westernized middle classes from both lands, rendered the extravaganza of the EVENT acceptable and meaningful. Conviviality was the overwhelming spirit. Michael Roberts
