The US and Israel don’t know exactly where the Supreme leader or other leaders are, but if some poor guy in Tehran knows, and is prepared to betray their country for $10 million and a new life in America, then they can join America’s ‘Rewards for Justice Program’ – a euphemistic name that actually means Rewards for Traitors Program.

Professor HL Seneviratne: An Outstanding Career

My earliest memories of the eminent anthropologist, Professor H. L. Seneviratne date back to my childhood, when I first encountered his name through the vivid accounts of campus life shared by my late brother, Sugathapala de Silva, then a lecturer in the Department of Sinhala at the University of Peradeniya. By the time I became a first-year sociology student in 1968/69, I had the privilege of being taught by the Professor, whose guidance truly paved the way for my own progression in sociology and anthropology. Even then, it was clear that he was a towering presence—not just as an academician, but as a central figure in the lively cultural and literary renaissance that defined that era of the university’s intellectual history.

Profit Over Peace: The Strategic Orchestration of the 2026 Iran War

Cast your eye over this Truth Social post from Trump. He openly states, “When oil prices go up, we make a lot of money.”
Who exactly is the “we” here? It is not the United States; it is the wealthy oligarchy surrounding Trump. They are warmongers and Zionists who relish a war that is pushing oil prices to record levels.
Trump then claims the most important thing is to stop “an evil empire, Iran, from having nuclear weapons and destroying the Middle East.” While his first statement admits to profiteering for his circle, his second is blatantly false. Iran does not have nuclear weapons and, as his own intelligence agencies have repeatedly stated, is not seeking them. Furthermore, the US and Israel initiated this war, not Iran, which is acting in self-defence under the UN Charter. The true destroyers of the Middle East are Netanyahu and Trump; that is where the evil lies.

Asanga Abeyagoonasekera’s latest book is a comprehensive account of international relations in the regions it covers, with particular reference to current rivalries between India and China and the United States. It deals with shifting alliances, or rather alliances that grow stronger or weaker through particular developments: there are no actual breaks in a context in which the three contestants for power in the region are wooing or threatening smaller countries, moving seamlessly from one mode to the other though generally in diplomatic terms.

The area is now widely referred to as the Indo-Pacific. Though that term was coined over a hundred years ago by a German keen to challenge the Anglo-American hegemony that triumphed after the First World War, it gained currency more recently, following a speech by the hawkish Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was instrumental in developing the Quad Alliance between Japan, India, the United States and Australia.

Dining with the Devil: The Gulf’s High-Stakes Diplomacy with Russia and Iran

The pathetic leaders of the Gulf states (GCC) – Bahrain,  Qatar,  Kuwait,  UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman ask Russia to use its leverage on Iran to stop the war. They don’t want to use their leverage on the US and Israel because they have none and support them. They refuse to condemn Israel and the US, telling Trump to finish the job, but it went wrong. These countries are in a real pickle as their economies and oil fields go up in smoke, so in desperattion, they ask Russia to tell Iran to stop, which means to force Iran into a humiliating surrender, and to give Trump and Netanyahu their “great victory”. There is something wrong with Arab leaders across West Asia,  especially in the GCC countries.

Gross Misreadings of US Progamme from Gunaratne & Witkoff

I find Gunaratna an intellectual lightweight. Here are my thoughts to his claims…..
Rohan Gunaratna’s “two-week” victory claim is a dangerous fantasy, as unsubstantiated as the “feeling” Trump used to justify this invasion. His assessment that the U.S.-Israeli offensive will rapidly degrade the regime’s capacity is being dismantled in real-time by regional developments and internal U.S. intelligence.
Gunaratna’s analysis suffers from blatant Groupthink. He cites Steve Witkoff’s claim on Hannity that Iranian negotiators “proudly” admitted to possessing 11 nuclear bombs—a documented fabrication. Witkoff didn’t find a threat; he invented one to sabotage the Omani-led peace breakthrough. On 9 March, IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi confirmed there is zero evidence of a structured Iranian weapons program.
