Sri Lanka depend so much on Pathum Nissanka in white ball cricket and when he fires, the team wins and when he fails, they flop

The first T20 International against Pakistan in Dambulla underlined, yet again, how heavily Sri Lanka lean on their talismanic opener Pathum Nissanka. When he gets going, Sri Lanka can push into the 180 plus scores that win you games. When he fails, the innings tends to unravel like a loose sweater. On Wednesday night, they were skittled with four balls to spare.

Critical Readings of Lankan T20 Cricket Prospects ….

SL Cricket Aficianado Slam Sri  Lankan Selectors & Squad after Team is beaten by Pakistan at Dambulla …. HIRAN & DIRK in Slash and Burn in Facebook

HIRAN HEWAVISENTI”s READING
That sinking feeling……. As the T20 World Cup beckons!
I guess it’s too late to appoint a new chief who selects? And a new skipper?
When the powers that be insist on picking their favourites to fly the precious flag… and when passengers continue to be part of the playing XI… and when we leave the IPL’s second highest overseas pick on the bench, and the legends and young talent out in the wilderness… you get what you deserve – a flag flying at half mast.
Not even the advantage of playing the T20 World Cup on home soil, not even a draw that favours us, will make a difference if this circus continues for much longer.
And if we, the fans, are demoralised, can you imagine how the players – particularly the young and talented – are feeling?
The gallant Pakistanis, on the other hand, are showing why they are among the hot favourites to go the distance – let’s face it, they were without the likes of Barbar and Afridi for tonight’s walk in the park!

Murder & Mayhem by US Special Forces in Venezuela … Protests Resulting

That Observer ina Black Sea Town

Venezuelan social movements and political parties held a massive rally in Caracas on 4 January to reject the US military attacks against the country, and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro.
The Sunday march took place in the center of the Venezuelan capital and ended close to Miraflores Presidential Palace.
Demonstrators held handmade signs demanding the release and return of Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores, who were abducted in the early hours of 3 January by a team of US special forces, resulting in the cold-blooded murder of 32 Cuban security and intelligence officers, who formed Maduro’s personal security team.

USA’s Assaults on South America Emulates Hitler

A Churchill Today

In the recent unproved attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of Nicholas Madura, the operation carried out by US special forces involved the cold-blooded murder of a large number of Maduro’s security team—male and female soldiers, and innocent citizens. US special forces killed them all just to get to Maduro. He did not resist.  It was a case of cold-blooded murder.  The US military killed over 80 Venezuelans, with hundreds injured.

“THE RICHIES” …. Leave the Cricketing World

The Richies, the beloved Australian cricket fan group famous for dressing as legendary commentator Richie Benaud in grey wigs, beige suits, and oversized microphones, have officially ended their 16-year run following the SCG Test on January 5, 2026.

The group, which honoured Benaud on Day 2 of the New Year’s Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground since around 2010, decided to retire the tradition after the 2025/26 Ashes series. Their official website confirms: “The SCG test 2026 will be the final Richie Day.” Co-founder Lachlan Hennessy had previously stated, “Nothing lasts forever,” explaining the choice to step away after more than a decade and a half of bringing joy, chants, and good-natured fun to Test cricket.

Harini Amarasuriya’s New Year Message to All Sri Lankans

In TPS Courtesy of Charlees Schokman in Melbournev…. New Year Message from the Hon. Prime Minister

As we move forward to the New Year of 2026, it is timely to reflect on the year 2025 that has passed. The year 2025 can be granted as a year having made a number of decisive and progressive steps with a people oriented government.
I am confident that, within a new political culture, we were able to strengthen transparency in state governance and lay the foundation for an efficient and corruption free public service. We can be satisfied with the progress achieved in several key areas during 2025, including economic stability, the increasingly positive and optimistic international perception towards our country, the establishment of transparent systems of governance, and the strengthening of the sovereignty of the legislation system.

The CEYLON JOURNAL 2/2 Brightens the Year 2025

Professor Walter Perera, revewing The Ceylon Journal Volume 2 Number 2 in The Island, 4 January 2025,  where the  title reads ““New Year Dawns with more stories of Sri Lanka” …. with highlights being impositions by The Editor, Thuppahi

In 2024, I helped launch the maiden issue of The Ceylon Journal [TCJ] to a full house at the elegant, near-patrician environs of the Sri Lanka Medical Association Auditorium. My encomium to the editor Avishka Mario Senewiratne for a well-wrought first issue was accompanied by a cautionary tale about the perils of editing. During my 16-year stint as editor of The Sri Lanka Journal of the Humanities [SLJH], I had observed how editorships sometimes become vanity projects which last only as long as the individual who does the job for a substantial period of time, retains interest; consequently, there was a need to plan for the TCJ’s long term future even as its first issue was drawing praise.
