Impasse: Uneasy Peace in the IRAN Arena

Desert Wanderer, with  highlights imposed by  The Editor, Thuppahi

I have just read that Trump has postponed his plan to destroy the entire Persian civilization for two weeks. He is using this “threat of annihilation” as leverage to force Iran into a humiliating defeat, after declaring “total victory over Iran” for the 27th time.

Of course, the reality is different. Trump hasn’t won the war; it is still ongoing. He is desperate for a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, but Iran views the war differently.

Iran doesn’t want a ceasefire; it wants a treaty to end the war and a new security architecture for West Asia that provides security for all countries. Iran wants all US forces out of the Middle East because the US provides only insecurity, not security. Iran also demands reparations for all the damage the US and Israel have caused. Unless Trump can meet those terms, the war will continue.
Iran’s demands are impossible for Trump. This is why he has become irrational, making outrageous statements and worsening the situation.
What does this mean? The war will likely continue for several months, perhaps even years. This will lead to a destroyed global economy, ruined livelihoods for billions for the next decade, and the possibility of a global war.
Iran is in a stronger position today than it was before the war. It is now making more money from the Hormuz “toll gate” than it was from trade before the war. Iran is confident it can outlast Trump. The war isn’t over until Iran says it is—and that requires a formal treaty to end the conflict on their conditions, not just a temporary ceasefire.
