I got to know Kushil Gunasekera in the early 2000s because of his services to SL Cricket Board and a side-benefit was information on the wide range of welfare benefits provided by the FOUNDATION OF GOODNESS …. shorten-form FOG. This welfare work was/is not limited to its immediate environs -though obviously, the greatest reach is local.
The philanthropic commitments of FOG have been recognized publicly by such well-known cricketing personalities as Kumar Sangakkara, Ian Botham, Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene. What better ENDORSEMENT can an NGO get!!
So — dip into your pockets ladies and gents and consider donations towards its activities.
The Foundation of Goodness
The Foundation of Goodness was established in 1999 and has worked extensively to develop a one-of-a-kind holistic rural community development model. With over 26 years of experience serving humanity, the Foundation has had the opportunity to reach over 1,000,000 beneficiaries from over 1200 villages island wide, free of cost, by way of 5 impact areas: Education, Rural Development & Humanitarian Aid, Sports Development, Women’s Empowerment and Environment & Sustainability. The Foundation of Goodness also provides opportunities for volunteerism and has established its own Sustainable Income Generation avenues.
In addition to its flagship venue and project headquarters, the OYOB Centre of Excellence and Sports Academy in Seenigama, the Foundation of Goodness has also branched out to offer its key courses and resources to distant rural villages via Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres that empower rural communities with free access to tools, skills, and modern curriculums taught by qualified instructors. More than resource hubs, these Centres bridge the urban-rural divide, fostering critical thinking and holistic growth.
Through their transformative programs, which combine top-tier facilities with education and empowerment, these Centres serve as a beacon of hope, laying a foundation for prosperity and sustainable development, and providing a model for rural poverty eradication worldwide.
The Foundation of Goodness has established 21 Village Heartbeat Empowerment Centres across the island: Delft (Jaffna District) Kundasale (Kandy District), Ahangama (Galle District), Jayanthipura (Polonnaruwa District), China Bay (Trincomalee District), Mahiyangana (Badulla District), Maskeliya (Nuwara Eliya District), Ragala (Nuwara Eliya District), Kothmalae (Nuwara Eliya District) , Hatton (Nuwara Eliya District), Mathagal (Jaffna District), Pallai (Kilinochchi District), Oddusuddan (Mullaitivu District), Vavuniya (Vavuniya District), Eravur (Batticaloa District), Thirukkovil (Ampara District), Dambulla (Matale District), Bandarawela (Badulla District, Central Region), Monaragala (Monaragala District), Udumulla (Galle District) and Rathgama (Galle District).
In addition to our empowerment Centres across Sri Lanka, the Foundation of Goodness also initiates many special projects, ranging from the distribution of essential school items and groceries, to the building of wells, water purification plants and toilets for rural communities in Sri Lanka, providing educational scholarships as well as laptops and responding to crisis situations in the country to ensure a speedy return to normalcy with the aim of ensuring a better standard of life for thousands of struggling Sri Lankans.
