Wind Power in Lanka: India’s Imperial Grab

India has overstepped its ambition by grabbing Sri Lanka’s 50 giga watt wind power asset valued at over 40 billion dollars and then for having obstructed Sri Lanka’s Bay of Bengal extended continental shelf claim that is estimated to possess 200 billion dollars of resources. India has weaponized her 4 billion debt assistance in 2022 to ride rough shod over a weak Sri Lankan political and civil service administration that bent over backwards to appease Modi.

 India must surely realize that unequal treaties and agreements don’t stand the test of time. Only win win agreements. Just because weak Presidents of the past and the present have had no courage to object to India, future leaders of a different stature will stand up to India. Not as it’s enemy but as an equal partner. Make no mistake India, the silent majority is watching your every move and unless there is a win win platform, your arm twisted gains are going to be short lived.

Sri Lanka may have been ruled by an inept group of cowards who pandered to gain Indian support for their political survival, but all of those political parties and politicians who took money and were silenced by India are deep inside resenting that pressure and are waiting for the day to dawn for an unecumbered leadership with no IOUs To India, China, and other third party nations meddling in our domestic internal affairs, to be able to stand resolutely against hegemonic actions.

India needs to recalibrate it’s policy and win Sri Lanka over with mutual respect and equitable arrangements. Not be emboldened by the emerging post Trump multinpolar World of winner takes all approach. India could still be our friend that respects our ancient ties but not be the bullying neighbour who is bound to lose the last remaining friend in the SARC region.
