Fascist Strands in Australian Anti-Vac Campaigns?

Julia in Sydney… in MEMORANDUM to Michael Roberts,

ONE: …..

Hi Michael, I have some very strong views about the  anti-vaxxer ‘freedom’ movements that are going on.” I think they are mostly comprised of people who are 1. afraid of the vaccine because they have no idea of what they don’t know (see: Dunning-Kruger effect) and/or 2. buy into too many conspiracy theories in their misguided search for making sense of the world around them and/or 3 hold very strong right-wing neo-libertarian ideology.

It’s a dangerous mix. If you look at the people who spoke at the so-called “Freedom Rally” in Hyde Park in Sydney over the weekend (20/11/21) they are composed of a few interesting characters. One guy is a Pro-Putin nationalist who basically wants Australia to become like the Trump-era USA. And another guy is a fitness instructor posing as a teacher and is someone who has created a fake teachers’ union for anti-vaxxer “teachers”.

So, I think the movement is ultimately being driven by fascists, to be frank. The placards on display by this crowd provide enough of a sample to see this as a fact.

I spoke at the counter-rally in Newtown on the same day to promote the idea that we need to stand up and say that this anti-vax movement is NOT ok.

* We formed in 2015 to combat the Reclaim Australia movement. We drove them off the streets, combatted the fascist splinter groups that formed out of it, and have made Melbourne an extremely hostile place for international “celebrity fascists” like Milo Yiannopoulos and Stefan Molyneux.
However, the far-right are once again on the march all around the world. As the economic crisis deepens and international tensions increase, we expect nationalists and fascists to soon mobilise openly on the streets of Melbourne. Join the militant campaign to drive them back!

COVID has broken out in the Northern Territory, presenting a risk particularly to Aboriginal communities which have been made more vulnerable by years of oppression from the Australian state. The far-right movement has jumped on this to try and further spread its disgusting ideas opposed to public health measures. Anti-vaxxers have invented baseless conspiracy theories about Aboriginal people being forced to take the vaccine at gunpoint. Just another reason to join the next protests opposing the right-wing freaks marching in our streets – Stop the far right! Take back Melbourne’s streets – PROTEST #2
Here is the post about the short media coverage of the rally held by Campaign Against Racism and Fascism – Sydney rally in Newtown on Saturday:

    • And among the EXTREMISTS is one bloke who haadopted the PSEUDONYM “JOHN SMITH” whose vicious hatred of India and Indians is quite manifest …. AND whose interventions in Thuppahi have been permitted because (A) the display the influence of social media in fostering all manner of extremisms that feed off each other and (B) complicte mediation and rapprochement.
